How to Connect Jumia to Your POS in Kenya

Quick answer

Create a Self Authorization application in Jumia Vendor Center, paste its Client ID and refresh token into the Jumia card under Integrations in WebpinnPOS, then press Match listings by SKU. From that point your POS stock is sent to your Jumia listings and Jumia orders come into the till every 15 minutes. The one rule: your Jumia seller SKUs must match the SKUs or barcodes in the POS.

What the connection does

Most Kenyan sellers on Jumia also sell from a shop, a stall or a WhatsApp list, and keep one pile of stock for all of them. The usual failure is a unit that sold at the counter on Saturday and sold again on Jumia on Sunday, because nobody updated the listing. Jumia then cancels the order, and enough of those hurt your seller score.

With WebpinnPOS connected, the POS is the one place stock is counted. Every sale at the till, every delivery you receive and every stock take you do sends the new quantity to the matching Jumia listing. Jumia orders come the other way, into the same Online Orders screen as your Shopify or WooCommerce orders, and deduct the units they sold.

Before you start: match your SKUs

Jumia identifies each listing by a seller SKU. WebpinnPOS links a listing to the product that has the same SKU, or failing that the same barcode. So before connecting, open your Jumia catalogue and your POS products side by side and make sure the codes agree. A product with no match gets no stock from the POS, and an order for it will not deduct anything.

If you have never set SKUs on Jumia, the simplest rule is to use the barcode printed on the product as the seller SKU on both sides.

Step 1: create the application in Vendor Center

  1. Log in to Jumia Vendor Center and go to Settings, then Applications.
  2. Click Create Application and choose the type Self Authorization. This type cannot be changed afterwards, and it is the one that lets a system work on your behalf without someone logging in each time.
  3. Copy the Client ID.
  4. Generate a refresh token and copy it too. Treat it like a password.

Step 2: connect in WebpinnPOS

  1. In WebpinnPOS go to Integrations and find the Jumia card.
  2. Paste the Client ID and the refresh token and click Connect Jumia.
  3. If your Vendor Center account holds shops in several countries, pick the one this branch sells from.

WebpinnPOS checks the credentials with Jumia straight away. If Jumia rejects them, the usual reasons are a token that was already used once (generate a new one) or an application of the wrong type.

Step 3: match your listings

Click Match listings by SKU on the Jumia card. WebpinnPOS reads your Jumia catalogue and links each listing to the POS product with the same SKU or barcode. It then tells you how many matched and lists the ones that did not, with their seller SKU, so you can fix the code on either side and match again.

Nothing is created in this step. WebpinnPOS does not add products to Jumia or import Jumia listings as new products. It only links what already exists on both sides.

What happens from then on

  • Stock out. When a quantity changes in the POS, the new figure is sent to Jumia within a few minutes. Jumia applies it shortly after. If Jumia rejects an update, the product shows on the Integrations page with the reason, and WebpinnPOS keeps retrying.
  • Orders in. Every 15 minutes WebpinnPOS pulls new and changed Jumia orders into Online Orders, with the buyer name, the items, the amount in shillings and whether it was prepaid or pay on delivery. Items you ship yourself deduct stock; items Jumia ships from its warehouse do not.
  • Cancellations. A Jumia order that is cancelled or returned is marked cancelled in the POS on the next pull.

Packing, printing labels and marking orders ready to ship still happen in Vendor Center. WebpinnPOS is for the stock and the record of the sale.

If you also have your own online store

Jumia is a marketplace, so it sits beside a Shopify or WooCommerce store rather than replacing one. A shop can have one storefront and Jumia connected at the same time, and both receive the same stock figure. If you run several branches, the branch set as the stock source under Integrations is the one Jumia sees.

For the storefront side, see the guides on connecting Shopify and WooCommerce, and managing online orders from the POS.
